Bocht (adj): To think you are cool when you’re not

Bocht - pronounced with a guttural "ch" sound (like loch) - is a NE Scotland word that describes an individual whose uncoolness exists beyond their threshold of self-awareness.

This is typically revealed through one or more factors, such as: Slightly poor aesthetic judgement, misplaced confidence, or subtly disproportionate physical characteristics, such as an awful haircut, an oversized tongue, or a forehead that is actually a fivehead.

A bocht (een) is never trying to be uncool, which is precisely why they are.

Examples of this include:

•"He's not weird enough to be eccentric, just pure bocht."

•"The shiny square-toed shoes took him from normal bloke to entirely bocht."

•"There was nothing wrong with him really, but the combination of his big ass, pigeon toed walk and slightly oversized tongue was undeniably bocht."

Remember: Bochtness is always in the eye of the beholder.
